Shopify SEOShopify is a good platform for small shops. It looks after hosting, security and your sitemap, and gets a fair bit of the SEO basics right. What it doesn’t do is fill in the settings that matter most. That’s the bit I sort.
Shopify gets plenty right out of the box. It builds your sitemap automatically, handles the hosting and security and gives every product, collection and page its own search engine listing to fill in. For a lot of small shops it’s a sensible choice.
The trouble is that those listings are left as defaults on most shops I look at. Product titles copied straight from the name, collection pages with no words on them and descriptions borrowed from the supplier. On top of that, every app you install can add code that slows the shop down, and deleted products leave dead links behind unless someone redirects them. Shopify’s own SEO help pages show where the settings live. Knowing what to put in them is the job.
I go through the shop the same way every time. Titles and descriptions written for people, collection pages given words and structure, apps trimmed back, redirects for old products and structured data checked so Google can show prices and stock. My guide to Shopify SEO for small shops covers it in more detail.
Shopify SEO starts at £125 a week, 30 day rolling. It’s part of my wider ecommerce SEO work. If your shop needs building or moving onto Shopify, I can do that too.
The settings and habits that decide whether a Shopify shop gets found.
Every product, collection and page given a search listing written for people, not left as the default.
Words at the top of each collection that explain what’s in it and match what people search for.
Your own words instead of the supplier’s, so Google has a reason to pick your shop.
Old and deleted products pointed somewhere useful, using Shopify’s built-in redirects.
Product photos described so Google Images and screen readers know what they show.
Your theme’s structured data checked so prices, stock and reviews can show in Google.
We have not looked back since hiring Pete and his team to create a new website for our business. He has gone above and beyond all my expectations. I can not thank them enough for the determination and effort they have put in to give us the best web design possible…
Apps are the most common reason a Shopify shop slows down. Each one can add its own scripts to every page, and a lot of them stay behind after you stop using the app.
I go through what’s installed, remove what you don’t need and check what’s left over in the theme. Images get sized for phones too. A quicker shop is easier to buy from, and Google notices. More on that in why a slow mobile site costs you customers.

Send me your Shopify shop address and I’ll check your titles, collection pages, installed apps and speed on a phone, then tell you what I’d fix first.

For most small shops, yes. It handles the sitemap, hosting and security for you. The settings that matter most still need filling in by someone.
Usually not. Shopify has the main settings built in. Some apps help with specific jobs, but plenty just add weight to the shop.
Most often because they have no words on them. A short, useful intro at the top of each collection gives Google something to rank.
Partly. Shopify sets the folders, like /products/ and /collections/, but the end of each address can be edited. If you change one, set a redirect.
The page disappears and any links to it break. I set up a redirect to the closest product or collection so you keep the visitors.
Most themes include some. I check what yours outputs and fix gaps so prices, stock and reviews can show in Google.
