Google Business ProfileYour Business Profile decides whether you show in the map when someone nearby searches for what you do. A lot of the profiles I see are half filled in, sat in the wrong category, with photos nobody’s touched in years. I set yours up from top to bottom.
When someone nearby searches for what you do, Google often shows a map with three businesses under it before any websites. The businesses in that map pick up a big share of the calls. Which three appear comes down mostly to their Google Business Profiles.
Getting in there isn’t a mystery, and Google’s own guide to local ranking sets it out. It looks at your main category, how complete your profile is, how close you are to the person searching and how many recent reviews you have. Most of that is in your control.
Most profiles I look at are half done. The wrong category, half the services missing, no photos since the day it was set up and reviews nobody has replied to. Sorting that is often the quickest win a local business can get. I’ve written a full guide on how to get into the Google Maps top 3 if you want the detail.

Really happy with the job Pete and the team do me my business, so much that I have referred them to others in my industry. Great site and really high rankings, keep up the good SEO work guys!
Sort your profile. It’s free and it’s where a big share of local calls start. Plenty of businesses never touch theirs after setting it up.
That works in your favour. A complete and active profile stands out next to a row of tired ones. Reviews are a big part of it, which I cover in why Google reviews matter for local businesses. It’s also one of the three tools in my Google setup.
From a tired listing to one that gets the call.
Your existing profile claimed back, or a new one created in your name and verified.

Regular posts, fresh photos and a steady flow of reviews, every month.

Yes. You set it up as a service-area business, which hides your address and shows the areas you cover.
I can look at it and tell you what’s most likely gone wrong. Then I’ll help you put the request in to get it back.
Fake listings can be reported to Google. I’ll check it over and report it if it breaks the rules.
Ask happy customers straight after the job, with a simple link that takes them right to the review box. I’ll set that link up for you.
Yes, calmly and politely. Future customers read your reply as closely as the review itself.
It depends on Google. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes they ask for a video check. I’ll guide you through whichever they ask for.
Only one for each real location. Setting up profiles at addresses you don’t actually trade from breaks Google’s rules.
Little and often. A post or a few new photos every week or two keeps the profile looking active.
