SEO for independent travel agents

I’ve done SEO for travel businesses. The big booking sites own the cheap package searches, but plenty of people want a real person to plan a honeymoon, a cruise or a tailor-made trip. They search for exactly that. I help independent agents get found by them.

Why good travel agents get missed on Google

You’re never going to outrank the giant booking sites for “cheap holidays to Spain”. That’s fine, because those aren’t your customers. Your customers search for help with something bigger or more personal. A honeymoon in the Maldives, a first cruise, a multi-stop trip or a holiday that needs special care.

Most independent agents’ websites don’t speak to those people. They show a few generic deals and a contact form. Pages built around the trips you love planning, written with real knowledge and personality, rank for those searches and show why someone should come to you.

Local matters too. Lots of people still like a travel agent in their own town they can pop in and see.

The searches worth chasing

“Travel agent near me”, “independent travel agent Liverpool”, “honeymoon travel agent”, “cruise specialist”, “tailor-made holidays” and destination searches like “Japan holiday planner”.

Win the trips the giants can’t plan

Booking sites are built for simple trips. Complex, expensive or special trips are where an independent agent shines. Make those the heart of your site and you’ll attract people who value proper advice.

First-hand knowledge is your edge. A guide written by someone who’s actually been beats a generic one every time.

Homeworkers tooIf you work from home, a service area listing and a strong site still put you in the map.

Travel agent SEO questions

Tap a question to open it.

How much does SEO cost for a travel agent?

£125 a week, which is about £18 a day, on a 30 day rolling basis. That covers your SEO, Google listing, AI visibility and looking after your website.

Can I compete with the big booking sites?

Not on cheap package searches, and you don’t need to. You can win specialist, local and tailor-made searches.

Should I write destination guides?

Yes, for places you know. First-hand guides rank well and show your expertise.

I’m a homeworker. Can I still rank locally?

Yes. A service area listing and town pages can put you in front of local travellers.

Should I show prices?

Example trip prices or “from” prices help people judge if you’re a fit.

Do reviews matter in travel?

A lot. People spending big on a trip want to know others trusted you.

How do I get more reviews?

Ask when clients get home, while they’re still buzzing. A simple link by email works well.

How long before I see more enquiries?

Listing fixes can help within weeks. Specialist searches usually take a few months to rank well.

Can you work on my existing website?

Usually. If it’s on WordPress I can make the changes myself. If it’s a franchise or host agency site, I’ll tell you what’s possible.

What do you need from me to get started?

Your website, the trips you specialise in and access to your Google listing. WhatsApp is the easiest way to start.
