SEO for accountants

I’ve done SEO for accountancy practices. A new client is worth years of fees, and most of them start with a search like “accountant for sole traders” or “small business accountant near me”. I help your practice be the one they shortlist.

Why good accountants get missed on Google

Most accountancy websites read the same. A list of services, a stock photo of a calculator and “we offer a personal service”. Google can’t tell one practice from another, and neither can the business owner who’s searching.

People choosing an accountant want to know if you get businesses like theirs. A landlord, a builder, a café owner and a contractor all have different worries. Pages aimed at each of them rank for the specific searches they make and show that you understand their world.

Online accountants have also moved into every town with big ad budgets. A local practice can still win, especially in the map and on searches with a town name, but only if the website and Google listing are doing their job.

The searches worth chasing

“Accountant near me”, “accountants Liverpool”, “self assessment tax return help”, “accountant for landlords”, “contractor accountant”, “bookkeeping services” and “limited company accountant”. Each can be its own page.

I teamed up with [hiPete] so they could improve our website, SEO and grow our company. The are straight talking – no flash sales using power point presentations, just down to earth, creative, knowledgeable and friendly. And more importantly they deliver on what they say. The team are forthcoming with ideas, very proactive, and I can completely trust they are behind our website and our brand. We are not just another client, we are made to feel important, and like our business is worthwhile. The team are always available for a chat or meeting, and very responsive to any communication. I already recommend them to friends and other business owners, and I will continue to do so. My only regret is that I didn’t move to them sooner!!!

Plan around tax season

Searches for tax return help climb from autumn and peak in January. Pages need to be live and ranking well before then to catch that wave.

Many of those clients stay for years, so a busy January can set you up for a long time.

Niche wins“Accountant for dentists” or “accountant for landlords” is far easier to rank for than “accountant”.

Accountant SEO questions

Tap a question to open it.

How much does SEO cost for an accountant?

£125 a week, which is about £18 a day, on a 30 day rolling basis. That covers your SEO, Google listing, AI visibility and looking after your website.

Can I compete with online accountants?

Locally, yes. In the map and on searches with a town name, a local practice with good reviews often wins.

Should I show my fees?

Starting prices or packages help. People compare practices and skip ones that hide fees.

Should I focus on a niche?

Often, yes. Niche searches are less crowded and bring clients who value specialist knowledge.

Do blog posts help an accountancy site?

Useful ones do. Short guides on deadlines and common questions bring in the right people.

When should I start before tax season?

By late summer or early autumn, so pages are ranking when searches climb.

How do I get more reviews?

Ask after you’ve filed a return or saved someone money. A simple link by email works well.

How long before I see more enquiries?

Listing fixes can help within weeks. Busier searches take a few months to rank well.

Can you work on my existing website?

Usually. If it’s on WordPress I can make the changes myself. If not, I’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth fixing or rebuilding.

What do you need from me to get started?

Your website, the clients you want more of and access to your Google listing. WhatsApp is the easiest way to start.
